Yeah, I've decided that Chillingworth is a jerk.
He agrees that Hester and Dimmesdale sinned, and that they are both paying plenty of their own penance for it.
So the longer Dimmesdale lives the more he suffers.
And Chillingworth is doing his best to keep him alive, for whatever reason.
And Chillingworth still thinks that Dimmesdale hasn't suffered enough!
Chillingworth needs to take a chill pill.

I agree. i think Chillingworth is way more "demonic" than Pearl. I think she's cute ^_^.
ReplyDeleteI think in the beginning the reason for torturing Dimmesdale and getting revenge was that he thought Hester shouldn't suffer all on her own and her partner in sin should get a similar punishment. After a while, though, i think he just put all his energy into the torture of this man that he's lost most of his morality. He's become just an angry, deformed man that no body loves. sob sob.
im with you on that one too. i think hes really jealous of dimmsdale and that is why chillingworth is constantly torturing him. chillingworth realizes the guilt that must be going through dimmsdales head so he just likes playing with that.
