Pearl & other random stuff :]
Pearl seems to be pretty clever. I mean when she whispers into Dimmesdale's ear and tells him that she is going to punish him for not standing in public with her and her mother... she has got to be pretty smart to do this at her age. I also think it's pretty funny that they give Hester an "A" for her punishment, but when they see the "A" in the sky, they think it stands for Angel.... it's just a little funny.

I think you are right when you say Pearl is clever but I am not convinced that she knows what is really going on between the husband, the minister and Hester. I think that she just knows how to get what she wants, so in that way she is not only clever but conniving as well.
ReplyDeleteI think Pearl has her own understanding of the situation. She obviously realizes that Dimmesdale is important to her mother, but she still doesn't have a complete understanding of the "A" and the relationship between the two men and Hester. She does seem to know a bit much for her age though, or she pretends she knows things to get what she wants or to find some truth.
