The End?

Okay, so the minister and Hester have made their plans to get away from Boston on a boat and cross over the ocean with Pearl, but does anyone have ANY idea how it's going to end? I mean I can't figure out if the minister will back out and reveal everything because he's a good puritan? Or will Pearl say or do something wrong in front of the towns people to make the whole plan unravel? Or will they actually get away together, Pearl turn out better (because of her father's influence) and live happily ever after?

    No, I really have no idea how it's going to end, but I'm not expecting it to be really happy or anything. Like Chillingworth will eventually expose them and they'll be hung, or Pearl will really be demonic and kill them all, or the ship will be eaten by a giant octopus or something like that.
    Or it could be really boring.

    Well, when Hester was made to wear her scarlet letter back and now, when Chillingworth is going on the boat with them - in both situations can be seen one "fatalistic" motive, i.e. that they can't escape their destiny (or whatever would you call it). According to this and to the fact, that it is supposed to be a tragedy, I don't think it's going to end up well...

    By the way, I just recently (= when they met in the forest) realized that Dimmesdale is protestant (I subconsciously found him as a catholic). I don't know if anyone sees what I mean, but for me it made a really big difference - at least now it is just sin instead of supersin. :)

    I'm not expecting a good end at all. Just because of the style of how this story seems, I'd say that the end will be sad. I think Chillingworth will expose the 'sinners' as soon as they're on the ship. The best ending i can imagine is that Dimmesdale will have to carry the scarlet letter too but i don't think so. I rather agree with one of nik's theories: that they both will be hung.

    I would rather develop Nick's theory: with the help of his Indian friend, Chillingworth will overdose them by peyote, so Pearl will turn into a giant octopus and will eat the ship.

    I guess they all are gonna die in the end. No matter how, I think this kinda story will end with death.
    The best ending probably will be Hester and Dimmesdale died when they got older.
