Well, I didn't really get what happened in Chapter 9-11. At first, I thought Mr. Chillingworth already knew that Mr. Dimmesdale is Pearl's father. So, Mr. C (to make it short) approached Mr. D, in this case is being his physician to make a way to take revenge. But, after I read more, I got confused. Probably, I am completely wrong. So, anyone has an opinion about that?
Do you think it's just a coincidence that Mr. C got closer to Mr. D without knowing that Mr. D is the one he is looking for? Or, maybe he has a hidden agenda?
Sorry, if my question is dumb -_-!
i agree, i thought it very strange that mr. C should end up taking care of mr. D if he didn't know, yet i don't think he did know, at least for a long time. maybe it was fate.
ReplyDeleteI think Mr. C had a premonition of some sort about Mr. D, and having the chance to follow it, he did. So now he has it figured out, which means he can plan his revenge. He could have also jumped at the chance to take care of Mr. D because, being a minister, he probably knows a lot about a lot of people and could (if it wasn't him) lead Mr. C to Hester's fellow sinner, or help anyway.
ReplyDeleteThen again, maybe it's just one of those necessary circumstances that has to come about in stories like these?
As far as I know, Chillingworth knows that there is some secret and he wants to find out what exactly it is, but I'm not sure if he had found out it yet (I think that "officially" we don't know it either...). But maybe I just skipped it somehow...
